Body Mass Index

Body mass index (BMI) is measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adults. It was presented in the Drug Calculations software to provide practice with multiplication and fractions.

The formula for the BMI is:

Calculate the Body Mass Index for a person who weighs 87.4 kg and is 173 cm tall.

Convert height into metres

173 cm = 0.173 m

Place values in the formula

           87.4 kg         

= BMI

0.173 m x 0.173 m

 

           87.4 kg         

= 29.202

2.9929 mē

= 29 (rounded)
